Welcome to the website for the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners and the Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama.
The Board is the state regulatory authority that examines initial applications for medical and osteopathic licensure in Alabama; licenses and regulates Alabama Physician and Anesthesiologist Assistants; and regulates the prescribing of controlled substances by physicians, physician assistants, and Advanced Practice Practitioners. The Board also investigates complaints and issues permits for specific regulated activities such as office-based surgery and pain management services.
The Commission is the state agency that has the exclusive power and authority to issue, revoke and reinstate all licenses to practice medicine or osteopathy in the state of Alabama. The Commission hears formal charges against physician licensees and determines what discipline, if any, is appropriate.
Our joint mission is to protect the health and safety of all Alabama patients.
